What Is Ifa?

Ifa is an ancient spiritual practice developed by The Yoruba people of West Africa. Ifa can be described as the word and wisdom of The Almighty Creator, also known as Olódumarè, governed by Orunmila, an Orisa who is the witness of Creation. Orunmila developed all of Olódumarè’s knowledge into an extremely complex spiritual practice (also known as Ifa) that provides healing, understanding, and tools such as divination and medicine to ensure positivity and prevent negativity in a person’s life and destiny.
Practicing priests of Ifa are known as Awo, or “Babalawo” for male, and “Iyanifa” for female. Awo means “mysteries of the Universe”, because Ifa priests hold the mysteries of the Universe in order to provide healing and maintain harmony in the world.
Ifa is a healing science in which the Awo communicates with the spiritual realm in order to diagnose spiritual / metaphysical obstacles and also prescribe solutions. Likewise, this spiritual communication also prescribes actions that can be taken in order to maintain spiritual health and longevity.
